Why PTI accuses MQM ?‏

“Propaganda is that branch of the art of lying which consists in nearly deceiving your friends without quite deceiving your enemies.” – Francis Cornford.

If we go back to the previous government and analyze how PPP diverted the media and people from their bad governance then we don’t see the much difference between PPP and PTI strategy. It was not too long ago when Zulfiqar Mirza of PPP was selected to create the diversion of public through press conferences against MQM. Zulfiqar Mirza alleged Altaf Hussain with the killings in Karachi and 12th May incident and also went to London with suitcase full of so called evidences. And for few months Khan is practicing the same strategy by accusing MQM chief by putting different fake allegations and spitting poison against the most popular and beloved leader of urban Sindh, who is head and shoulders above than a play boy turned politician like Imran Khan.

Imran Khan is also responsible for instigating hatred through fake propaganda against his political rivals. He is the same man who used to yell like a mad man at Shahbaz Sharif during his election campaigns, but soon after he regained his lost love for Sharif brothers and started to bash Altaf Hussain, Imran developed this habit during his cricket days when he used to sledge his opponents to divert their attention but as years past there are still no signs of maturity in Imran Khan.

On the other hand PTI supporters are themselves responsible for the criticism that Imran Khan draws for his colorful personal life. The reason being PTI supporters show least respect to the leaders of other political parties and resort to calling them names, now this may be attributed to lack of political maturity which they inherit from their leader Imran Khan, over enthusiasm or utter frustration for the apparent failure of their leader to come clean. How on earth can you preach the world to come clean/declare assets when you yourself are scared to go through a simple DNA test? If you are sure you have not done anything wrong then have the test done and shut your opponents up forever.

On the other hand, Media persons and some well-known TV anchors faced an ugly barrage of abuse on social media sites by ‘PTI trolls’, this large section of the Imran Khan fan club shower’s anybody with a wide range of Urdu, Punjabi and English abuses if it believes that person has criticized Khan or his party.

PTI social media team used harsh and abusive words against chief justice on Facebook and Twitter.
PTI social media team uses harsh and abusive words against CJP on Facebook and Twitter.

Whatever may be the reason behind this disrespectful attitude of PTI supporters, it is shocking, because PTI claims to be the voice of educated youth. The only reason that I can think of for this lack of mannerism from PTI supporters is that building the character of workers/supporters is the responsibility of the leadership. A political party draws people from different walks of life, it is necessary to formulate a code of conduct and guide your workers about it for proper implementation. MQM frequently holds “Tarbiyati Nishists” and other such activities for its workers. MQM’s leader never addresses his opponents with “Tum” in his speeches; he used the word Sahab out for respect for opponents like “Nawaz Sharif”, whereas Mr. Khan does not care about such minor actions that can only earn him respect.

PTI supporters argue that their political party is attracting deprived masses and that is the reason for chaos at its public meeting, if this argument is accepted, you have to wonder if MQM’s public meetings are attended by super humans. Since its inception in 1984, the MQM is known for its discipline. Like PTI, MQM also represents deprived masses, despite this the first public meeting at Nishter park took place under heavy showers, yet no indiscipline was witnessed. The reason is simple, the central leadership of MQM has always been disciplined, and they believe in “practice what you preach”

Almost the entire central leadership comes from middle and lower middle class, even the most senior leaders are seen sitting on the floor on stage during public meetings, indicating to the masses that leaders and masses are equal, so this discipline of leadership has a trickle down effect on its workers and supporters. It is this discipline that the MQM manages to hold huge public gatherings at short notices, notices that sometimes are as short as 18 hours. On the other hand Tsunami Khan though claims to champion the cause of masses; he relies on ultra rich politicians who obviously cannot relate to the problems of an ordinary citizen. I bet Mr. Khan and his lot of “senior citizen youngsters” would consider it a disgrace to sit on the floor of the stage.

This is a sheer leadership failure that even the most loyal of supporters are reluctant to work in the filed, this is when PTI has never faced state oppression, imagine what would be the reaction of its supporters if PTI faces same kind of state oppression that MQM faced, I am sure PTI’s supporters would not dare to take the name of PTI in their dreams even. What is it that makes MQM supporters turn in large numbers in its public meetings? What is it that makes people vote for MQM despite so much negative propaganda? What is it that hundreds of thousands of people listen to the speech of its leader with exemplary discipline? What is it that despite numerous state operations and killing of thousands of workers and supporters by rivals, people are still willing to be a part of MQM? All this is because the leadership of MQM has instilled discipline in its cadre their elected representatives are common people, who are within the reach of masses.

I only feel sorry for the supporters of PTI, all this hype against MQM and its founding leader Altaf Hussain is nothing more than a bubble, we saw that before the general polls as well and now we are witnessing this Tsunami in the cup of tea again. At that time also the Tsunami Khan had made tall claims against MQM and its leadership, claims that remain claims only till date. There is simply no comparison between MQM and PTI. PTI needs to do a lot of soul searching before challenging a rival having such a large and dedicated cadre of workers as MQM.

An unending tale of Sacrifices : Qasba Aligarh Massacre‏

Karachiites have been paying a big cost for their struggle for rights and their refusal from bowing down to Landlords and War lords. The oligarchy has always kept them under the pump from the ruling elite, who are scared of the power of lower and middle class leadership of MQM since its inception.  In early 80s, MQM, which did not only promise to empower the helpless masses but have also lived up to the expectations of the Urdu speaking community. The community which was looking for their true representatives since the partition and when the founder of MQM Mr. Altaf Hussain united them on a single platform, they turned the ideology into a formidable political force in shape of MQM.

Unfortunately, the powerful elite of this country who are oppressing the lower class since the partition couldn’t absorb the reality of MQM, and start hatching conspiracies against MQM and Urdu speaking community, who were its driving force.
December 14, 1986 : Qasba Aligarh Massacre
December 14, 1986 : Qasba Aligarh Massacre

On 14th of December 1986, Qasba and Aligarh predominantly Urdu speaking areas of Orangi town were attacked by Afghan and Pashtun Drug and Arm Mafia terrorists to avenge Sohrab Goth operation against Drug Mafia and Arm Mafia.

International media reported about the incidents with following facts that: The Pashtuns, screaming “Death to Mohajirs”, by firing guns and waving knives and axes.

Police failed to control the onslaught by more than 1,000 Pashtuns, which continued for several hours, until Army arrived to quash the riot. Troops were ordered to enforce a curfew by shooting violators on sight.

Police refused to intervene and gave open hand to these Drug Mafia and Arm Mafia terrorists who murdered more than 400 people and torched more than 300 houses and shops with chemicals in 6 hours, Government claim only 50 people.
BbZTzqmIgAEZ6uy.jpg large
According to Abdul Sattar Edhi “At least 300 houses continued to burn into the evening.”

Now people who beat the drum of Rawalpindi riots, why didn’t they ever raise the voice against this massacre where men women and children were brutally massacred to stop an operation against Drug and Arm Mafia? The only sin of the community was that they were Urdu Speaking? In the incident women were raped and children were thrown in burning houses.

Urdu Speaking community have every right to ask Jamat-e-Islami, PML-N, Imran Khan and all the other political and religious parties who beat the drum of 12 May that why didn’t they raise issue of this massacre and genocide of their community? The incident of Qasba Aligarh was not the only incident but it was a series of attacks on this particular community.

In the end of this blog I would like to ask those self-proclaimed champions of human rights and anchors, who are so curious about the victims of Red Mosque operation, why they become deaf when it comes to raise the voice for the innocent victims of Qasba Aligarh massacre, who were persecuted because of their loyalty to the ‘land of the Pure’?

Romance between PTI and PPP

PTI-PPP

If I say that Cricketer turned politician Imran Khan’s politics is as unpredictable as the game of ‘Cricket’ it won’t be wrong.  He has made so many u-turn since he reentered with his Tsunamic entry into mainstream politics in 2010. Now people have started wondering why his name hasn’t been inducted in the Guinness book of world records yet, for taking most number of U-turns in his controversial political career .

Excluding Imran Khan’s long list of personal love affairs, his party PTI has also been in romance with almost all the parties for one reason or another. Most recently PPP has been contacted by PTI for their support in the upcoming local government elections to fight their common enemy PMLN in the provinces of KPK and Punjab. Interestingly enough, it wasn’t long ago when the Chairman of PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari used very harsh words against chairman PTI, when he called Imran Khan as TTP apologist and awarded him with the title of ‘Buzdil Khan’ (a coward). In addition to that Bilawal also accused Imran Khan of supporting TTP and called PTI as their political wing, while reacting to the controversial statements of PPP’s chairman the Information Secretary of PTI Shireen Mazari called Baby Bhutto as a ‘spoiled brat’.

If we look back on the series of events which have led to this highly unexpected development we will find that since the days of his election campaign Imran Khan had maintained a firm stand on PPP’s corruption.  It was Imran himself who used to call ex PM Raja Pervaiz Ashraf as Raja Rental and promised his potential voters that he will trial Mr. 10% (Zardari) the day he comes in power.  It seemed impossible that Imran Khan and PTI would ever join hands with the party that according to his statement is the most corrupt party in Pakistan ,PPP.

But as they say everything is fair in love and war, Imran’s love for power has brought him closer to PPP now and even knowing the fact that how PPP has patronized PAC (banned terrorist group from Lyari). PAC has blood of hundreds of innocent Karachiites on their hands and majorly responsible for the law and order mess in Karachi. He has undermined all these facts for his increasing lust for power.

On the other hand PPP, whose leadership was calling Imran a traitor and coward just few days ago has once again proven that there is no match for their reconciliation ( for power) politics. Does it mean that for PPP, Imran has turned into a brave leader from a coward one? Now they might support him in his promised NATO supply line blockage on 20th Nov, which may result in further destabilization of country’s political and economic condition, but who cares as I stated in the above paragraph ‘everything is fair, in love and war (on terror).’

If we look at PTI’s politics in KPK, it’s no less than a nightmare for the people of KPK and seems like nothing has changed for the better in KPK. More than 200 people have lost their lives but KPK Government thinks that infusing the syllabus of Islamiat (Islamic studies) with the doctrine of Jihad is comparatively more important than saving the lives of the civilians, who have been mercilessly left on the mercy of TTP’s peace ambassadors. I am not saying it myself, these are the words of Imran Khan who called a top notch terrorist of Al-Qaeda Wali ur Rehman  a peace activist.

Another thing which makes the situation even worse in KPK is the on-going competition for the best TTP apologist between Imran Khan, Munawar Hassan and Maulana Fazlur Rehman. They all seem to be in a hurry to make TTP happy for unknown reasons, may be they know that what TTP, did to ANP might happen to them as well.

Altaf Hussain – A Charismatic Leader‏

Who could have thought that a boy from the deprived class will challenge the might of the privileged class and will fight for plight of lower and middle class and in doing that he sacrificed his health and comfort for the nation. People use to argue – Why he wear dark glasses, I am sure it was just to cover the dark circles he got working late nights for his people when everybody was asleep, which is why he always wears sunglasses despite all his untiring efforts and struggle over the years, he is still passionate about his people and their cause. He presents himself as an ordinary man, almost without character traits of his own. This enables one to project one’s own notion of simplicity onto the leader. His charisma seems to grow with every image of hope, power, suffering and justice his followers invest in him. Heartthrob of millions all over the world.

Altaf Hussain was born on the 17th of September, 1953 in Karachi and completed his matriculation from Government Boys Degree School at Jail Road and Intermediate (science) from City College, Karachi. After that he went on to complete BSc. from Islamia College, Karachi in 1974 apart from completing his Bachelors in Pharmacy (B. Pharm) from 1979 from Karachi University.

Altaf Hussain belongs to a middle class family and in order to support his family he started to work as a trainee at Karachi’s famous, Seventh Day Adventist Hospital apart from working for a national and multinational pharmaceutical firm but later moved to live with his brother to the United States where he stayed for a period of one and a half year.

During the university days he formed what was then called All Pakistan Mohajir Student’s Federation (APMSO) on the 11th of June 1976.Altaf Hussain as Chairman of A.P.M.S.O worked tirelessly for the rights of local students studying at Karachi University. When the things went out of hand in Karachi University and the security treats increased; Altaf Hussain and his fellow student were forced to leave educational institutes in Karachi, he went on to form Mohajir Qaumi Movement (MQM) on the 18th of March, 1984 which later turned into Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in 1997 which happens to be Pakistan’s fourth largest political party.

Altaf Hussain during his earlier life as a student joined the National Service Cadet Scheme as a volunteer in 1970-1971 and later joined the Baloch Regiment of Pakistan Army and was trained by army in both Sindh and Baluchistan. Altaf Hussain had been imprisoned thrice and the first time he was arrested was when he protested for the Repatriation of Pakistanis from Former East Pakistan (Bangladesh) on the 14th of August, 1979 at Quaid-e-Azam’s Mausoleum. He was sentenced by the then Martial Law Government of dictator, General Zia Ul Haq for a period of nine years vagarious imprisonment and five lashes which he completed but the lashing was stopped by Sindh High Court. The second time, he was arrested was at the Gath Phatak interior Sindh on his way from Hyderabad to Karachi after the historic convention of MQM at Hyderabad on the 31st of October, 1986.

And finally his third arrest was a voluntary one, on the 30th of August 1987 out of disgust against the police brutalities and to stop the police raiding and torturing MQM’s workers and treating their relatively indecently.A lot of false cases were registered against him during his long political struggle and one of most hilarious yet disgusting was that Altaf Hussain stole a police man’s cap and it was only after the MQM’s unprecedented victory during the local council elections in Karachi and Urban Sindh that he was finally offered a “bail” which he rejected immediately which actually resulted in an uncompromising release of himself along with all the detained workers of MQM in January, 1988.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement – A political organization which Altaf Hussain founded can be described as a revolution against ruling elite of landlords, bureaucrats, and the military and stress upon the humble, lower-middle class background of their leaders. He is also a source of hope, pride, joy and liberation.

Altaf Hussain turned toward a discourse of class and justice rather than ethnicity and revolt but the civil and military establishment started one of the most inhuman operations against Altaf Hussains and MQM which annihilated 15,000 of his followers including his brother and nephew extra judicially. MQM later change her name from Mohajir Qaumi Movement to Muthida Qaumi Movement meaning the movement of the united nation rather than the Mohajir nation. Altaf Hussain’s MQM during the first local bodies election boycotted the elections under President Musharraf and took part in the national elections in 2002 to emerge as the third largest political party in Pakistan.

apmso120609-12
In 2005, Altaf Hussain’s nominated mayor, Mustafa Kamal under Haq Parast Panel (the righteous panel) won the elections to become the Mayor of the city where he went on to transform the city of Karachi, the main hug of Altaf Hussain’s support, into a world class city and was nominated as “one of the three” best mayors of the world by the Foreign Policy Magazine apart from receiving unprecedented support even from Mr.Hussain’s and MQM’s opponents. Today many international and national powers are working against MQM and everyday more and more propaganda has been done by international media in order to malign and defame Altaf Hussain but despite all these false accusations and media trial Altaf hussain seems to be more popular then ever, and his followers unshakable confidence in their beloved leader.

Why Karachi needs army ?

PakWaziristan
The spotlight is once again on Karachi. On Wednesday, the Supreme Court criticize the law-enforcement agencies for failing to keep the peace in the city was followed by a news conference in which Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan called for a political solution to Karachi’s troubles. In response to MQM chief Altaf Hussain’s demand that the city be handed over to the army, Chaudhry Nisar rightly pointed out that without political consensus among the stakeholders, no security agency could turn around the situation.

The efforts made by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) the current ruling party in the province of Sindh to ensure peace and control day by day worsening law and order situation in the ‘City of Quaid’ Karachi. Being the economic backbone of the country Karachi holds a defining importance in country’s already glooming economy and its regular shut down due to extortion, target killings and continuous doesn’t only disturbs millions of Karachiites but also gives a considerable jolt to the country’s economy. Unfortunately, despite all these drawbacks the incompetent provincial government has turned the deaf ear towards Karachi and takes the gruesome law and order situation half heartedly.

Instead of taking stern a security measure to ensure the safety and security of life and property of innocent citizens, PPP has left Karachiites on the mercy of extortionists, drug and land mafia and gang war terrorists.

Meanwhile the law and order situation in Karachi continued to remain volatile, as violent activities could not be curbed and 8 to 12 people regularly fell prey to the targeted and other kinds of killing. Even the elected representatives were targeted but the government did not pay its due attention towards the aggravating situation. Not only common men, but elected representatives and now even judges are being targeted in Karachi. In the past week two major incidents occurred in Karachi which shows inability of the government to control the situation.

In the first incident, MQM MPA Sajid Qureshi and his son were shot dead and in the second major incident senior judge of Sindh High Court (SHC) Justice Maqbool Baqar suffered critical wounds and nine others including policemen and Paramilitary force personnel were killed in a deadly attack on his convoy.

Adding insult to the injury of Karachiites, after swearing in as CM, Qaim Ali Shah attended a dinner arranged by PAC gangster Uzair Baloch, which provincial minister Sharjeel Memon had to deny on media by saying that we don’t have any relationship with PAC. After few days, Qaim Ali Shah had to justify his visit to Lyari that the place is the stronghold of PPP voters and there is no harm in visiting them, Yes there is no harm except that Uzair has the blood of dozens of innocent Karachiites on his hands, who has butchered just because of the language they spoke.

In April 2012, CID proposes bounties worth millions on most wanted gangsters including Uzair Baloch head of the Peoples Amn Committee (PAC), Zahid Ladla and Taj Mohammad alias Taju which has been approved by Sindh Government. But in April 2013, The Sindh home department issued a notification to withdraw head money on three alleged gangsters namely Uzair Baloch head of the Peoples Amn Committee (PAC), Zahid Ladla and Taj Mohammad alias Taju from Lyari – May I ask why ?

In these circumstances the demand of Army deployment in the city by the prominent political stakeholder of Karachi MQM seems to be justified for several years now of such a consensus that has made Karachi a security nightmare for its citizens. The city has seen two major security operations in 1992 and 1995 (both ended up against MQM, resulting in the killings of thousands of MQM workers and supporters instead of the real culprits) the results have been anything but lasting: the sectarian, ethnic, political and criminal violence that exploded with fury in the mid-1980s continues to gather steam. Shootouts, assassinations, arson, kidnappings and extortion seem to have become Karachi’s destiny. Thousands of people have met a violent death, while few perpetrators have been arrested and hardly anyone brought to justice.

Regardless of the last two extremely unpleasant experiences of  politically motivated army operations against her, MQM has once again proven that she owns Karachi and cares for Karachiites and urged the federal govt to deploy army for the complete operation against all the criminal elements in the irrespective of their religious, political, lingual or ethnic belongings. Here the question arises that how can army deliver in Karachi? When police and rangers are completely fail to deliver any goods.

The answer is quite rational and understandable; Pakistan Army is a disciplined organization with great chain of command and almost zero tolerance for traitors and enemies of the state. If the army is given full authority and power to complete a task, it goes in full throttle and establishes state writ no matter what it takes. In the case of Karachi, the army should be given full authority to carry out raids, make arrests, try the criminals in military courts and dispense speedy justice which they are fully capable of doing.

Karachi has bleed badly in the past and now it seems to be breathing artificially on a ventilator. The Pakistan army is the only hope left and if given a chance, they can surely provide relief to Karachiites.

The idea of an APC had been given by none other than Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, before leaving to China he announced that an APC would be held on July 12 to discuss the menace of terrorism and drone attacks and evolve a policy to deal with them.

Imran Khan’s recent trip to the UK has given a clear indication that he doesn’t have any interest in resolving the terrorism issue, or his friends in & out of Pakistan aren’t allowing him to take any concrete steps in order to tackle the most serious issues of all, ‘Terrorism and Extremism’.

IMG-20130721-WA003

Khan’s untimely decision to leave Pakistan right before the (APC) has also raised many objections on Khan’s dedication to the Pakistan. He claimed multiple times during his election campaign that he won’t ever lie to the nation but when he left for UK with the excuse that he’s going abroad for getting some serious medical treatment (which was easily available in Pakistan) a large number of Pakistanis including those who voted for him were astonished to see him enjoying drinks in cocktail parties in UK, especially the royal gathering hosted by Prince Charles.

It is believed that the scheduled (APC) has been postponed due to Khan’s absence; this is also a matter of great concern for the moderate Pakistanis. It is also important to understand the rhetoric of the APC. In the last two APCs – one headed by the Pakistan People’s Party(PPP) and the other by the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), all parties have agreed that political dialogue is the only solution for tackling terrorism, but TTP and other extremist and militant groups turned down the offer of talks. This ‘new’ APC could have brought about a firm decision that may have resulted in action against militants. In this scenario Khan’s move to pull out of APC at the eleventh hour made people curious and question his motives.

A month ago, militants distributed pamphlets in Mashogagar village (Peshawar) asking people not to shave their beards as it was un-Islamic. And now according to the villagers militants have enlisted at least six children from Sheikhan village. The armed men have been publicly proclaiming jihad to the villagers for the past few days without inviting any attention from law enforcement agencies. Dozens of armed militants belonging to the banned outfit Lashkar-e-Islam (LI) visit Sheikhan after Iftar, and urge people to join hands with them.

Except his apologetic tone for extremists, there is much more to question Imran Khan on. We can question his slogan of ‘change’ that he promised, we can also ask about the improvement in KPK. Where the frequency of attacks has increased.

I have heard that the PTI led KPK government has passed an ordinance where by anyone found eating or drinking during Ramazan can be fined up to Rs50, 000. Where is Imran Khan now? Is this the ‘Naya Pakistan’ Khan has been talking about??

Appalling condition of law and order in Punjab‏

Dancing around the fire is not the solution of any problem; one should look beneath the surface in order to grasp the basic knowledge about the issue. Contrary to the high claims of CM Punjab Shehbaz Sharif and Law Minister Punjab Rana Sanaullah, the law and order situation in Punjab is deteriorating by the day. The crime graph has risen and incidents of violent behavior, murder, robbery, looting and drug-trafficking have become the order of the day with an annual increase of 23%.

The 5-year crime statistics of Punjab provided alarming figure indicating that total 723,051 criminal cases were recorded including 268,173 against person (52,219 in 2008, 51,898 in 2009, 53,958 in 2010, 56,701 in 2011 and 53,397 in 2012). Property crime were – 81,546 in 2008, 85,110 in 2009, 91601 in 2010, 104242 in 2011 and 92,379 in 2012.

As many as 1,075 women were gang-raped (202 in 2008, 202 in 2009, 237 in 2010, 225 in 2011 and 209  in 2012) in Punjab during the 5 years, which shows that 78.69% gang rapes incident occurred in Punjab as over 1,366 cases were reported throughout the country. The figure revealed that 832 people were kidnapped for ransom in five year (213 in 2008, 174 in 2009, 146 in 2010, 184 in 2011 and 115 in 2012). 67,690 persons were kidnapped (11,279 in 2008, 11,972 in 2009, 13,820 in 2010, 15,035 in 2011 and 15,584 in 2012).

102,819 vehicles were stolen in Punjab during the last five years as against NCD figure of 171,713 vehicles showing that 59.88% of the total vehicles were stolen from the Punjab province.

The statistics disclosed that 454,878 cases against property were recorded in Punjab during the last 5 years (81,546 in 2008, 85,110 in 2009, 91,601 in 2010, 104,242 in 2011 and 92379 in 2012) which directly affected general public. Source: National Crime Data Report.

Police statements regarding facts of crimes are mostly systematically fabricated and widespread: the police reports, in general, do no tell the truth. It is an endemic problem. The solution of this problem is that anyone who works for the police and is involved in giving false statements to the prosecution, the defense, the courts, parliament, public inquiries or the media should be-given exemplary punishment.

It is time for the government to review the prevailing law and order situation in Punjab and devise a mechanism to respond to distress calls of the people immediately. The police should not be allowed to give protection to convicted criminals. It is duty of the police to protect life, property, and honor of common citizens rather than utilizing their energies for the V.V.I.P security purposes.

It seems that robbers and dacoits have no particular fear of law enforcing agencies. In other words the basic reason for law and order situation is failure of law enforcement agencies and lack of co-ordination between public and police. Punjab police has often been criticized for resorting the use of firearms against alleged criminals and there are several complaints of the death of accused in police custody.

Unfortunately policemen are rarely brought to justice. It is about time for change in police culture by taking strict action against the culprits, without looking into their political affiliation. That will certainly reduce the crime rate and improve the law and order situation of Punjab. It is a harsh reality that the police use the law against poor and innocent in order to protect themselves. It is a universal truth that crime doesn’t pay but opposite for Punjab. In this province only the criminals are thriving.

The ever-widening gulf between police and public is a dangerous signal for Punjab government. PMLN has gotten fourth chance to serve Punjab and this should be last chance for them. The government should work hard to overpower robbery, burglary, arson, fraudulent and property damage cases. The mission of the police should be to protect people and property, make everyone obey the law, control crime and catch criminals.

Reality of 19 June Operation

Twenty one years ago on the ill-fated night of June 19, 1992, Karachi experienced one of the worst moments in its existence. The people of Karachi became victims of a targeted semi-genocidal operation just on the basis of their ethnicity, developed by various agencies which were later found to have undeniable and strong links with the Government at that time.

These were innocent people with families struggling to make a living in the feudal dominated elitist philosophy rampant across Pakistan’s social strata, the social strata that was questioned by the ideology of The MQM (Mohajir Qaumi Movement at that time), a movement that was created to shake the status quo of power in Pakistan, a movement that was dedicated to the soul of Pakistan’s public and became a voice for everyone including the lower and middle class people, the persons on daily wage, the struggling housewives, the laborers, the small businessmen & the  students.

MQM’s existence has forever been a threat to the power players of Pakistan who fear that if the movement’s ideology took hold in the country, it would diminish their psychological hold on the public. As MQM started to evolve, these power players strategics to break up the party; they presented the MQM’s leadership with lucrative offers in a bid to buy them out but they could not succeed, because the strength of MQM has forever been the passion and dedication of its workers and their belief in the ideology.Failing to break up the movement, what conspired was the chaos of June 19, 1992; when these innocent people were slaughtered, their only crime was that they supported the movement and they are against the status quo.

June 19 is acknowledged as the “Black Day” in the history of Karachi, representative of the destruction that the citizens witnessed. The Law Enforcement agencies advantageously collaborated with the Haqiqi group whose members were originally a part of MQM but were disowned due to their involvement in terrorism and other illegal activities. The Haqiqi’s had a score to settle with MQM and had a strong financial backing from those who set that dirty game plan and want to eliminate MQM from the scene. They also had the license to kill.

ENCTR1

“Operation 92” known as Operation Clean Up (Operation Blue Fox) as it’s titled was targeted to kill MQM supporters but resulted in a massacre of the citizens of Karachi. Such an operation was the first of its kind that experienced covert terrorism unchecked by the government and the police force. Premeditated activities were advised to these terrorists that included brutal rape and murder of women, torture of men, and the elderly, looting of houses, hostage, and family threats all for the sake of punishing them for their beliefs.

LAASH5

It has been 21 years since that episode and still the effect lingers, the victims and their families have not been able to stabilize themselves. While the political parties and their leaders demand inquiries for every incident that happens in the country no one has questioned the event of June 19, 1992 in Karachi. MQM takes up this matter every time a new government comes into power but still the questions remain unanswered, intentionally.

While the movement cannot bring back the innocence that the victims’ lives have lost, it realizes that its voice is stronger and is heard by everyone due to the people who stood up for the movement on June 19th.

MQM honors those martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the cause of MQM; our cause is the cause of every single person out there.

Failure of Law Enforcement Agencies in Karachi and Remedies to ensure peace.

Dancing around the fire is not the solution of any problem, one should look beneath the surface in order to grasp the basic knowledge of the issue.

Karachi, the city of lights  and sometimes also referred to as ‘Mini Pakistan’ is once again in the shackles of terror and violence. It is the responsibility of the government to guarantee the security of life and property of its citizens but the Government of Sindh has totally failed to fulfill their constitutional obligation. Rangers (a para military combat force) which was deployed in Karachi in order to maintain law and order in the city and assist the toothless Sindh Police, has also miserably failed in achieveing the task assigned to them.

Rangers personnel wore black masks to protect their identities.

There is hardly any crime that is not prevalent in Karachi. Extortion, kidnapping for ransom, robberies, thefts, sectarian and ethnic killings, land grabbing, bomb blasts and all sorts of crimes are rampant in Karachi today. Turf wars and getting hold of major share of the extortion are the bone of contention between banned political and religious groups and are resulting in violence in the city.

Brain drain and flight of capital is taking place at a rapid pace in Karachi due to the extremely grave law and order situation of the city. Those having the resources to move out of country and city are doing so. The metropolis is the economic hub of Pakistan, yet no one is willing to put an end to the killings in Karachi, the jugular vein of our country.

Rangers is removing security barriers from peaceful areas in Karachi on the pretext of Supreme Court orders.
Rangers is removing security barriers from peaceful areas in Karachi on the pretext of Supreme Court orders.

Scores of workers of various political parties esp MQM (major stake holder in city) are being killed on a daily basis. The recent extra judicial killing of the unit in-charge, Ajmal Baig, under the custody of Rangers and the recent firing incident in Shah Faisal colony in which Rangers personnel opened fire at a young man named Gulam Haider who was carrying an emergency patient in his vehicle and died on the spot are the two acts of criminal negligence by the Rangers personnel that came in limelight. This has also led the officials to raise many questions  on Rangers’ credibility. It is a generally accepted fact that police force is incompetent and politicized and hence they cannot deliver but why has the rangers which has been stationed in Karachi for over two decades failed to perform ? Who is responsible for the ongoing mess in the city of Quaid ? Who will ensure our safety ? These are the few questions that every Karachiite seems to be asking himself everyday.

The media too keeps a mum when it comes to the law and order situation in Karachi and has failed to expose those involved for the unrest in the city.

I also want to suggest some steps to improve Karachi’s law and order situation
• Firstly and most importantly there must be a political will to call spade a spade and deal the perpetrators with an iron fist regardless of their political affiliations and the repercussions that may rise after nabbing such criminals. Criminals involved in extortion, land grabbing, target killings etc seek refuge in political parties and sometimes are even patronized by political parties for their ulterior motives. Therefore a loud and clear message has to be disseminated that the government shall have a zero-tolerance policy vis-à-vis crime.

• Pakistan is no short of upright, honest, competent and dedicated police officers. The problem lies in interfering and meddling in affairs of the police department for vested interests. If a free hand with total political backing is given to the police, I am quite positive that the situation can improve considerably.

• Use of latest technology can help, for instance CCTV camera’s is a cost-effective method for crime prevention and detection. The entire city should be monitored 24/7 and government can generate funds for the commissioning of camera’s through public-private partnership. The civil society will definitely contribute their share provided the government has the will to improve the city’s state of affairs.

• Effective use of mobile phone locators can help track and hunt down the criminals. Since witnesses remain reluctant to come forward because of fear the witness protection program must ensure providing fool proof security to the witnesses. Through effective and efficient investigation and prosecution, conviction rate has to improve.

• Ullema of all sects have to be taken on-board so as to maintain religious harmony and banned organizations must not be allowed to operate. The influx of immigrants in the metropolis should be monitored and registered.

I hope and pray that the city once known as the uroosul bilaad (Bride of the cities) and roshnion ka shehr (the city of lights) regains its lost peace and prosperity. Ameen

MQM considers every issue of the country as its own.

1123

“MQM is the only party which considers every issue of the country, whether related to terrorism, economy or energy, as its own and finding the solution of such issues is its priority.”  Yesterday MQM’s leadership proved it once again that, when they raised their voices for the poor Karachiites who have been bearing the brunt of announced as well as unannounced load-shedding for the past many days, had to suffer the power utility’s wrath on Sunday to Tuesday when they were deprived of electricity supply for nine to 11 hours in different areas.

In this regard Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader, Haider Abbas Rizvi, offered that his party could play a vital role in steering out the country from the ongoing energy and other crises as MQM has already proposed their solution in its election manifesto, but MQM would not allow anyone to push any house to darkness at the cost of other.

Every Karachiite has acknowledged MQM’s stand for the people of whole city, irrespective of their political affiliations and shown their gratitude to MQM for fighting their case and trying to steer out the city from an “unreal” electricity and water crises.

We must keep in mind that electricity and water crisis is not only confined to the Karachiites alone but it is a national issue because the country’s economy was on the verge of collapse mainly owing to closure of industries in Karachi.

The govt should hold inquiry against negligent officials for pushing Karachiites towards an artificial power and water crisis on the political and economic grounds, that such officials were continuously ignoring the decisions of Cabinet’s committee which, amounted to sheer excess against Karachi and its citizens. At a time when the entire country was in the grip of serious energy crisis, over 20 million population of Karachi was facing acute power crisis while water crisis was also cropping up rapidly and as a result of which its citizens, on the one hand, were facing immense hardships in the current hot and humid weather and, on the other, its industries had been badly affected.

Its a well known fact that although Karachi contributes 70 per cent to the national exchequer, some vested-interests officials of SSGCL had reduced the supply of gas to the KESC and, as such, their acts not only amounted to their incompetency but it was also a national crime.

MQM considered all the issues including terrorism, economy or energy and whether prevailing in Peshawar, Lahore, Islamabad or Karachi as its own and, as such, the party was prepared to help resolve such issues at any level. On the one hand, talks were being held to end the power supply of the city to the tune of 650 megawatt by separating Karachi from national grid and, on the other, SSGC was transferring 90 million cubic feet gas to the SNGC amounted to Sindh’s enmity and a prejudiced policy. In this scenario there is a dire need for adopting a national approach for the resolution of energy crisis, and the need of the hour is to identify those people who are bent upon ignoring the Cabinet Committee’s decisions which amounted to an open violation of the Constitution and the law.
